Sharon grew up in rural Quebec. She attended the University of Ottawa and obtained her medical degree and specialty in internal medicine in 1977. Moving to northern Ontario to practice medicine, she settled in Kirkland Lake, Ontario,
and raised a family of 3 children with her husband. She now lives in Arnprior, Ontario. Sharon is retired from medicine and is a full-time artist.
Her zeal for artistic expression began in university with painting as her medium of choice. In the 1990’s she explored art glass; her commissioned glass work can be seen in commercial establishments and private residences across Canada and the USA. In 1996 a friend coerced her to attend a quilting class which turned out to be a catalyst for what has become an unquenchable passion for creating fibre art.
Sharon’s work is primarily landscape, both real and imagined, with a focus on mood and colour. Her work has been juried into local, national and international shows. Most recently, her fibre work is fabricated with layers of
hand-dyed silk organza on dyed, and sometimes painted, cotton backgrounds creating ethereal scenes. Though she continues to explore fiber art she has come full circle and is primarily painting currently.
Artist Statement
I have had a lifelong desire to be creative. Through the years I have focused on art glass, watercolour, fiber art and painting.
In my artistic journey, I embark on a quest to illuminate the hidden connections that thread our diverse human experiences. Through my work, I aim to evoke emotions, provoke contemplation, and foster a deeper understanding of the world we inhabit.
I uncover hidden connections in our diverse experiences, using acrylics to capture fleeting moments of beauty often overlooked. Nature’s harmony and human emotions inspire me to blend the organic with the abstract, inviting viewers into a wordless dialogue that transcends boundaries. Through my art, I aim to spark curiosity, encourage empathy, and reveal the universal truths that unite us in our human journey.
